The lotus symbol here represents harmony and oneness and therefore holds a lot of significance as well.

The construction of this beautiful temple took 10 years to complete. Along with the main architect a team of 800 extremely skilled engineers, artisans, technicians and workers worked day and night to construct this temple. The creator had put in a lot of effort into making this beautiful structure. One such example of hard work is the continuous work of 48 hours which they spent to cover the petals of the lotus flower in order to avoid construction joints. It is further the first ever temple in Delhi that started using solar power as well.

A lot of recognized institutions have awarded the Lotus Temple for their excellent engineering and technicalities along with the brilliant architecture. It is a well recognized Bahai Temple in the whole world. Some of the popular awards that they have received include the Guinness World Records 2021, Paul Waterbury Outdoor Lighting Design Award 1988, and Outstanding Achievement of the time in Encyclopedia Britannica 1994 Edition. Architecture of Lotus Temple

The structure of the temple has three layers and each of them has 9 petals making it a total of 27 petals. Each of the ranks of these 9 petals is situated on a podium that further elevates the structure. Out of all the levels the first two levels are in an inward direction and cover the entire dome also. The third one however is in the outward direction that creates a shade for the 9 entrances of the temple. As there are no straight lines of this structure it was practically a challenge to construct something like this. The petals have white concrete cast along with marble panels. Also there are a total of 9 arches that support the central hall. The structure allows light to enter but there is a layer of glass and steel here that protects it from rain and dust.

The structure of the Lotus Temple Delhi spreads across an area of 26 acres. The main structure is the area of worship. But other than that there are a library, an administrative building, a reception centre, restroom etc. The marble used in the construction is brought from the Penteli Mountain in Greece and all the major Bahai places of worship are built in the same marble. Lotus Temple Delhi inside has a central hall that is around 40 meters tall. It is a huge hall that can accommodate around 2500 people at the same time. There are a total of 9 entrances and each of them has gardens around it. Also there are ponds inside the premises that further elevate the look of the temple. From a distance it almost looks like a huge lotus floating in water.
