By air

For anyone travelling by flight the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad is the nearest airport. The airport is 108 km away from the temple and it would take around 2 hours and 10 minutes to reach the temple from there. You can hire cabs to reach the Bahucharaji Temple from the airport.

By train

If you are travelling by train then the nearest railway station is the Patan railway station which is around 48 km away. Also the Mehsana Railway Station is another important railway station to reach this temple located at a distance of 41. 5 km. It would take around 50 minutes to 1 hour from both the railway stations each to reach the Bahucharaji Temple. However if you are traveling from anywhere nearby you can also opt for the Shankhalpur Railway Station which is only 3 km away from the temple. From there you can walk on foot to reach the temple. Ahmedabad Railway Station is the major railway station that is mostly connected with major cities. The Ahmedabad railway station is 112 km away from the temple and you can reach there in about 2 and a half hours.

By road

This location is well connected to major cities and towns and you can easily drive through to reach here. From Ahmedabad the temple is only 108 km away. You can take hired cabs as well to reach here. There are regular private buses on this route as well along with state transport buses. From Modhera the distance of the temple is 25 km and from Mehsana the temple is 35 km away from the temple.

Best time to view Bahucharaji Temple

You can definitely visit the temple around various festivals like the Navaratri, Dussehra, Ashwin Navaratri, Diwali, Full Moon Day, Chaitra Navaratri etc. These are the times when the majority of devotees visit this temple. Even though the popularity of this temple is mostly limited to states like Gujarat and Rajasthan yet the temple records a footfall of more than 1.5 million devotees annually. Also the authorities here organise Fairs during every Chaitra month and Ashadhi Purnima which are major crowd pullers. Bahucharaji Temple or Becharaji Temple is an important temple that worships the power of Goddess Bahuchar Mata. Here Bahuchar Mata is an incarnation of Goddess Shakti and the people worship her in the form of Bala Tripura Sundari. This is an important temple in the vicinity as according to beliefs this temple can grant boons and vows of the devotees are fulfilled here. The Goddess here is the patron Goddess of womenfolk and they believe in her a lot. The women believe that the Goddess intervenes in matters of domestic violence as well as other domestic issues. Bahuchar Mata is also the principal deity of transvestites and eunuchs. A large number of people belonging to such communities visit here, to seek blessings from the Goddess.

Architecture of Bahucharaji Temple

Located in Mahesena town in the state of Gujarat the origin of this beautiful temple dates back to 1152 CE. According to beliefs king Sankhal Raj built this temple. In total this temple houses three shrines. The oldest part of this temple is the Adyasthan and this is the original site of the temple. This one is a small temple which the people believe as a sight where the Goddess had first appeared. This site also has a small leafed varakhadi tree that is considered very significant.

Then there is another adjoining small temple that is the Madhya sthan which is the intermediate or the second place. This temple houses a plaque that represents the Goddess and also has a silver door locked at the entrance. According to beliefs a Maratha made this second temple during the 18th century. The temple was mostly the same till the 18th century but then few more reconstructions happened here. In 1779 CE Manajirao Gaekwad who was the younger brother of the ruler of Baroda at that time built a third structure in the temple complex. He built this structure after the Goddess cured him of a tumor. At present this third temple is the main temple of worship. This temple houses the Bala Yantra of quartz crystal that represents the Goddess.

Also Kalari King Tejpal and Saint Kapildev have contributed in their way in the construction of structures of this temple. This temple holds importance like that of Ambaji in North Gujarat. You will also find smaller shrines here as well of Lord Ganesha, Shree Neelkanth Mahadev, Shree Gutaeshwar Mahadev, Shree Chachar, Shree Kachrolia Hanuman. You will find a Chachar Temple here right in front of the Hanuman Temple. Also there is a cock house that is the main seat for the Goddess.

The temple decoration looks really beautiful with intricate stone carvings. Also you will find many paintings on the walls here. The Northern and the Southern gates of the temple have nice carved decorations along with Zharukha. The temple trust has also built a big meeting hall for functions and meetings. Along with that there is a havan mandap for yagnas.
