The Chaturshringi Temple is one of the temples in Pune that has a rich history that goes back to 250 years ago to the time of the Peshwas. According to one legend, once there was a wealthy money lender and mint owner Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan. He was the owner of this temple in Pune. Moreover he was a dedicated and a religious person and he was devoted to Devi Saptashrungi. Each year on the full moon day of Chaitra month he used to travel near Nasik to the hills of Vani. The distance of the hills was approximately about 300 km away from Pune and he travelled there to visit the temple of Goddess Saptashrungi.

But later as he aged it became difficult for him to travel that distance. So he stopped visiting the temple after a few years. And he was deeply hurt and sad as he was not able to visit the temple. By seeing his great devotion one day the Goddess herself came into his dreams. She suggested to him that he should visit the North East of Pune and further bring her idol closer so that she can be close to her devotees. Therefore to fulfill the command of the Goddess, Durlabhseth went to the place that the Goddess has mentioned. Much to his surprise Durlabhseth found an idol of the Goddess at the said location as well.

Out of gratitude therefore he established a temple at the same location from where he had found the idol. That is the story of the origin of this famous temple in Pune. There had been multiple renovations of this temple at different times. At present the Shri Devi Chaturshringi Mandir Trust maintains the temple in Pune.
