Nepal Tour Plan

How to Reach

By air

If you are planning to reach Nepal by flight then the nearest airport is the Nepal Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You can easily get flights from nearby cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Cochin, and Visakhapatnam to reach Kathmandu. Usually the Delhi to Kathmandu flights are the cheapest and it costs around Rs. 5000 to Rs. 6000. Furthermore it only takes around 2 hours to reach Kathmandu by air from Delhi.

You can also get flights from other major cities as well but they are very less in number. Also the price of the flight tickets will be a bit higher. The cost for the flight will range around Rs. 8000 to Rs. 12000. And it would take around 7-8 hours approximately to reach Kathmandu from these cities. However remember that Indians don’t need any Visa to reach Nepal. You can even travel without a passport if you have a voter card along.

By road

There are options to reach Nepal from India by road as well and you can opt for that. You will get buses directly from India to reach Nepal very easily. If you are travelling directly by bus from India, then you can get direct buses from Delhi to Nepal’s Kathmandu. You can get your tickets online from sites like Goibibo, Red Bus etc. And the bus ticket would range between Rs. 3000 to Rs. 3500. But keep in mind that it takes really long to reach Nepal from India by road. Approximately it will take around 26 hours to 30 hours to finally reach there. But you will get the option of Deluxe AC Sleeper Bus though so if you want you can opt for that.

By train

Now we will talk about the best and the cheapest possible option to travel to Nepal from India. There are two options to reach Nepal from India though. The first one is to travel to Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur railway station first. And from there you can travel via Sunauli Border to reach Nepal. The second way is to reach Bihar’s Raxaul Station first. And then from there you can travel via Birgunj Border to enter Nepal. If you wish to travel by train then you will get direct trains from almost all nearby cities to both Gorakhpur Station and Raxaul Station.

If you are travelling via Gorakhpur station then you will have to reach the Sunauli border that is located around 100 km away. Within 500 meters from the Gorakhpur Station there is Maharana Pratap More. From there you will get buses to reach the Sunauli border. And the bus tickets will be Rs. 130 per person and it will take you only 2 hours to reach there.

There is another option to reach Nepal from India as well. In case you are travelling from a location where you will get trains to reach the Nautanwa Railway Station, then you can opt for that. This station is located near Sunauli Border and you can easily take an auto from here to reach Sunauli border. From cities like Delhi, Kolkata etc you will get direct trains to reach Nautanwa Station. After reaching Sunauli border you will easily get buses to reach Nepal’s Kathmandu and Pokhara.

From here the distance of Kathmandu is 265 km and the distance of Pokhara is 183 km. Also the distance from Sunauli border to Kathmandu is more than the distance from Raxaul border. But the distance from Pokhara is comparatively less. If you are opting for a visit to Pokhara then the route via Gorakhpur will be best. And if you are willing to reach the most famous Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal then a journey via the Sunauli border will not be a good option. In that case it will be better to choose the route via the Raxaul border.

How to reach Kathmandu or Pokhara via Raxaul

So now in this article of Nepal Tour Plan I will discuss how to travel further from the Raxaul border to reach Nepal. From almost all the major cities in India you will get direct trains to reach Raxaul Station in Bihar. Personally I took the 13021 Mithila Express from Kolkata’s Howrah station to reach Raxaul station. It took me 17 hours to reach Raxaul station at 9 am in the morning.

On Day 1, you should try to reach Raxaul as soon as possible because it will be helpful. Then from Raxaul, there are a lot of options to cross the Nepal border to reach Birgunj. However, the best option is Tanga Gari which costs around Rs. 250 to Rs. 300. By Tanga Gari you will directly reach Birgunj Clock Tower More from Raxaul Station.

From there basically you will get buses from Kathmandu and Pokhara easily. But midway, you can stop at Dhala, and exchange your Indian currency. Currently the exchange rate is Indian Re 1 = 1.6 Nepalese rupee. Therefore this means for every Rs. 10000 Indian currency you will get 16000 Nepalese currency. At Dhala you will get a lot of open counters for currency exchange. Similarly in Sunauli border also you will get these counters to exchange your currency.

You can furthermore withdraw money from a lot of ATMs in Nepal as well. But for that you will need an International Debit card though. And the transaction charges are also higher. So I would recommend you to exchange a little more cash from the border itself. And then after the completion of the trip, you can again exchange the remaining money from the border and go back home.

 What’s more?

However if you are not travelling in a Tanga Gari, then you have a cheaper option here. You can get Tuk Tuk or Auto outside Raxaul Station that you can take to cross the border and reach Birgunj. It will cost Rs. 10 per person for a shared ride to reach Dhala. From Dhala however you will have to take another auto to reach Birgunj. After reaching Birgunj, you can get a shared cab or a bus in front of the Clock Tower to reach Kathmandu or Pokhara. From Birgunj the distance to Kathmandu is 135 km and it will take around 5 hours to reach. The price of a bus ticket will be 600 Nepalese rupees per person. And for the shared cab the cost will be 750 Nepalese rupees per person.

Similarly, Birgunj to Pokhara distance is 253 km and it will take around 7 hours to reach. The price of a bus ticket will be around 1000 to 1200 Nepalese rupees. But if you want to reach there quickly then you have options for flight also. In Nepal there are different airlines like Buddha Airlines, Shree Airlines etc that you can opt for. You can reach Simara Airport in Birgunj and you will get a flight from any of these airlines. It will take only 20 minutes to reach Kathmandu from here. Currently the flight fare is 3900 Nepalese rupees per person.

However, if you are booking flight tickets in advance, then you can easily cross the Birgunj border like me. Here you will find the Bypass More near the Clock Tower. From there you can find the New Gupta Tour and Travels shop. I have booked a shared cab to Kathmandu and also exchanged currency from here. You can book their tickets online as well. Otherwise you can reach here to book shared cab, bus and flight tickets. In case you want you can directly do everything through this agency. But remember if you are doing it through them then it would cost you a little more. The price for a shared cab will be an additional Rs. 100. And for flight it will be around Rs. 200 per person additional.

Important things to remember for Nepal Tour Plan

Now that you know everything about how you can reach Kathmandu and also about currency exchange there is another thing you need to know. While making a Nepal Tour Plan you need to keep in mind about the phone connectivity as well. If you are buying a sim card in Nepal you would need Passport, Aadhar card and a passport sized photograph. You can also buy sim from Ncell Tourism that costs 500 Nepalese rupees for 7 days.  In this package you will get 10 GB data, Rs.50 as balance and also 50 local calls. But do remember that you need to get the sim from the border areas of Birgunj or Sunauli. Otherwise it would be a problem later on for you. Moreover then you will have to wait till Kathmandu to get the sim and you will not have phone connectivity till you reach there.

Where to Stay

After reaching Kathmandu the first thing would be to check in to the hotel. Thamel Marg in Kathmandu is one such location where you will get hotels, food, cafes, nightclubs, cabs for sightseeing etc very easily. You can get hotels here that cost 1000 NPR for 2 people. If you are travelling alone, then there are a lot of hostel facilities as well within 500 Nepalese rupees. I have stayed at a hotel named Hotel Yala Peak. I booked a double bed room for Rs. 750 per night which was Rs. 1500 for 2 nights. The hotel was located close to Thamel Marg, which made it really convenient. Also the staff behavior was really good. They even had a restaurant here. So personally I would recommend you all to stay at this hotel if you want. You can get hotels online from sites like Booking.com, Agoda, Makemytrip etc.

When you travel by shared cabs or buses to Kathmandu then they would not drop you directly in Thamel Marg. They will drop you at a point and from there you will have to take a cab or taxi to reach Thamel Marg. So for that you must install the Pathao App before coming to Nepal. In Nepal, Ola and Uber don’t work. Opt for the Pathao App so that you can get bikes or cabs at affordable rates. Otherwise normal taxis here will charge you way more, so the app would be a better option. In my case, it cost me 400 Nepalese rupees for a regular taxi. If I had booked the cab via Pathao App then it would have been 250 Nepalese rupees. So definitely install the Pathao App to book your cabs or bikes in Nepal.

Nepal Tour Itinerary

Nepal Tour Plan Day 1

Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple

On Day 1 after reaching Kathmandu the first thing you need to do is to check in to a hotel. However, after checking in to the hotel, don’t be late. Quickly have some food and freshen up and then take a cab or bike from the hotel. Then you will have to visit the first and one of the most important Nepal tourist places of Day 1, the Pashupatinath Temple. From Thamel Marg the distance to Pashupatinath Temple is only 5 km. It will approximately take you around 20 minutes to reach there. It is the most famous temple in Nepal and most of the foreigners or Indians who come here first visit this temple.

I visited the temple on Day 3 as we got late while reaching Kathmandu on Day 1. So in case you fail to visit here on Day 1, you can definitely plan a visit here on Day 3 as well. You can offer pooja at the temple and also attend the evening aarti here. Keep in mind that only Hindus are allowed to enter this temple in Nepal. And for non Hindus it is possible to get a glimpse of the temple from the opposite side of the Bagmati River. Temple is open from 4 am to 12 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm on all days. And aarti happens every day at 6 pm to 7:30 pm in the evening.

Things to remember for Day 1

After attending the Aarti at Pashupatinath Temple and spending some more time there, you can take a cab to reach Thamel Marg again. This is a location where you will find cafes, restaurants, markets and everything. So make sure you are exploring this location in Nepal really well.

There is however one thing that you will have to do on this day. After reaching the hotel you need to talk to the owner of the hotel or any staff and book the night bus for Day 3 to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu. There are a lot of top level intercity buses in Nepal. And you will get facilities like WIFI, Washroom, AC, Sofa Seats, Charging Points etc. So talk to the hotel staff and book a bus by paying 1400 to 1700 Nepalese rupees per person.

So that was all about Day 1. At night have your dinner and sleep early because you will have to get up early on Day 2 to explore Kathmandu.

Nepal Tour Plan Day 2

On the day 2 of the Nepal Tour Plan you need to wake up early and have your breakfast. Then you will have to get ready by 7 am and start your sightseeing for the day.  Just like Day 1, on this day also opt for the Pathao App Cabs for sightseeing. If you are travelling solo, then you can also book a Pathao Bike. And if you are more than 2 people then you can book a cab via Pathao App.

Everyone in Nepal understands Hindi so language would not be a barrier here. You can talk to the cab driver easily and tell him about the location without any hassle. But there is only one problem though. And that is all the number plates of the cabs are in Nepali, and not in English.

Kathmandu Sightseeing Places

Chandragiri Hills

The Chandragiri Hills is the first sightseeing spot in Kathmandu for day 2. The location offers a pristine view of the whole city of Kathmandu. The major attraction of visiting this site is the ropeway here that you need to enjoy. The charge for one way is 475 Nepali rupees and for SAARC countries it is Rs. 760. I had to pay 1280 Nepalese rupees for a both way ride. The charge can seem like it’s a little too high but trust me the view is worth the price you are paying for. It will take you up to 2.5 km above the mountain to visit the temple there. For one way it will take 15 minutes and for a two way trip it takes around 30 minutes.

You will also get a glimpse of Mount Everest from the Chandragiri Hills on a clear sky day. Moreover here you will find Kathmandu’s highest Zipline too. So you can surely try it if you love adventure. The Bhaleshwar Mahadev Temple is located here and so visit the temple.

There are basically a few things that you need to keep in mind before visiting here. Definitely visit the Chandragiri Hills before 10 am in the morning otherwise it will get too crowded. Also it would take a lot of time to come here and then return by the ropeway. From Thamel Marg, Chandragiri Hills distance is 12 km, and it takes around 40 minutes to reach there. If you are opting for a Pathao Bike it would cost 400 Nepalese rupees and 1000 Nepalese rupees for a cab. Chandragiri Hills also has a restaurant, where vegetarian and non vegetarian breakfasts are available. So if you are visiting there without having breakfast, then you can have it here.

Swayambhunath Temple

The next sightseeing point is the Swayambhunath Temple. You can again book a Pathao App Cab from Chandragiri Hills to reach this temple. The fare I paid was Rs. 740. There are a lot of monkeys in the Swayambhunath Temple, and so it is called Monkey temple as well. Entry fees for SAARC countries are Rs. 50 and Rs. 200 for foreigners. Swayambhunath Temple is built on top of a mountain. You will have to climb around 300 stairs to reach the temple. It is one of the oldest temples in Kathmandu.

As soon as you reach the top of the temple you will see a stupa. Swayambhunath Temple is also popular as the Swayambhunath Stupa. On one side of the Swayambhunath Stupa, you will find Harati Devi Temple. From here you will get to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole Kathmandu city as well. There are prayer wheels here that surround the temple and elevate the beauty of the temple. It is believed that if one rolls the prayer wheels here and takes a circle around the stupa in clockwise direction then their sins will be washed away. Not only the stupa, here you will find various small temples, structures and statues also. The temple is located only 3 km away from Thamel Marg. It is one of the major sightseeing spots in Nepal that should definitely be a part of your itinerary.

Buddha Park
Buddha Park

The next sightseeing spot of this Nepal Tour Plan is the Buddha Park. You would not need a cab to reach Buddha Park from the Swayambhunath Temple. It is just 5 minutes walking distance from the temple. The way to reach this temple is really beautiful so you should definitely visit here. Furthermore you would get to witness the highest Buddha Statue in Nepal here. There is no entry fee to enter Buddha Park. The park is open every day from 8 am in the morning to 10 pm at night. If you are visiting the Swayambhunath Temple then definitely consider visiting the Buddha Park.

Budhanilkantha Temple

The next destination is the Budhanilkantha Temple and it is a temple dedicated to Lord Mahavishnu. This temple is also popular as the Narayanthan Temple as well. The word Budhanilkatha literally means Blue Throated Buddha. The devotees visit this temple with the belief that the water here can heal wounds and illnesses. Also this is an important site of pilgrimage for both Hindus as well as Buddhists.  The distance of this temple is 11 km from Buddha Park. And it would take around 30 minutes to reach the temple from the park.

Kopan Monastery

This is the next sightseeing spot which is a Buddhist monastery in Nepal. This monastery is located 5 km away and it would take only 20 minutes to reach there. The monastery is especially popular for teaching Buddhism to Westerners.

Boudhanath Stupa

This is yet another famous sightseeing point in Nepal and an UNESCO World Heritage Site as well. There is an entry fee for Boudhanath Stupa. For Indians it is Rs. 100 and Rs. 400 for other countries. Boudhanath Stupa became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1979. The structure of Boudhanath Stupa somewhat resembles the structure of Swayambhunath Temple. But the difference is that the structure of Boudhanath Stupa has 5 stages. Each of these stages represents the 5 elements of our lives namely Earth, Water, Air, Ether and Fire. Along with the stupa, you can also see a lot of Tibetan prayer flags here. And these prayer flags are also 5 in colour which are Blue, Red, White, Yellow and Green. Just like there were a lot of monkeys in the Swayambhunath Temple, here you will see lots of pigeons.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

This is an important World Heritage site in Kathmandu and a famous tourist destination as well. From the Boudhanath Stupa the distance is 8 km and it would take around 25 minutes to reach here. If you are taking a Pathao Bike it would cost 250 Nepalese rupees. And for a cab it would cost 700 Nepalese rupees. For SAARC countries the entry fee is Rs. 150 to enter Durbar Square. And for other countries it is Rs. 1000. Nepal has 3 Royal Cities, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. And all three locations have a Durbar Square where the royal families live. All these Durbar Squares are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Kathmandu Durbar Square has a lot of ancient temples, old architectural buildings and unique structures. Inside the complex, you can see the idol of Kaal Bhairav Ji. If you are visiting this location try to have at least 1-2 hours time in hand. The place has a lot of things to explore so you will need some time in hand. Kathmandu Durbar Square has a Kumari Palace. The gate of the palace opens at 4 pm everyday and you can get inside to visit Kumari. Keep in mind that cameras are not allowed inside. Out of the three Durbar Squares in Nepal, I could only visit Kumari in Kathmandu.

On Day 2 you should visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, and on Day 3 you can visit the Pathan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. From Kathmandu Durbar Square, Thamel Marg is at a 10 minute walking distance. So you can visit the Thamel Marg market and then reach your hotel and call it a day.

What’s more?

But, after this, if you are interested in exploring the nightlife in Nepal then Nepal has some popular nightclubs, pubs, disco etc. You can find a lot of nightclubs in Thamel Marg itself. If you are alone or a couple or in a group, you can enjoy the nightlife here. I will recommend the most famous nightclub in Thamel Marg that is LOD, because I visited here. I did not face any security issues here and it felt safe. The entry fee for LOD is 1000 Nepalese rupees per person, which is valid from evening to 5 am in the morning.

Nepal Tour Plan Day 3

So Day 3 is the last day in Kathmandu. On this day after sightseeing you should reach Pokhara by the pre-booked bus in the evening. So check out from the hotel early in the morning after having breakfast. And then keep the luggage at the store room of the hotel, and go out for sightseeing. In case you have visited the nightclub last night, then at least try to go out by 9 am the next morning. Also if you have not visited the Pashupatinath temple on Day 1 then first of all visit the Pashupatinath Temple and then move on to the next sightseeing locations.

Kathmandu Sightseeing Places

Kailashnath Mahadev Statue
Kailashnath Mahadev Statue

This statue is located in Sanga which is 22 km away from Thamel Marg. And here you can see the world’s highest Shiva Statue. If you are taking the Pathao Bike it would cost 400 Nepalese rupees per person. And for a cab the cost would be around 1000 Nepalese rupees. This is basically a comparatively newer location here and not a lot of people know about this location yet. But if you are visiting there the tallest Shiva statue would be worth visiting.

Sanga Suspension Bridge
Sanga Suspension Bridge

There are a lot of suspension bridges in Nepal but this is one of the most beautiful ones. So if you are visiting the Kailashnath Mahadev Statue then make sure you are also visiting this bridge from there.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur Durbar Square

As I have mentioned already this is yet another World Heritage Site in Nepal. After visiting the Shiva statue and the suspension bridge you need to take a cab to reach Bhaktapur. The cab fare will be 500 Nepalese rupees and the bike fare will be around 180 Nepalese rupees. Basically, Bhaktapur is a different district but the distance is not much from Kathmandu Thamel Marg.

Pathan Durbar Square

The Pathan Durbar Square is the last sightseeing location in Kathmandu on Day 3. It is yet another World Heritage Site. The cab price will be 550 Nepalese rupees. And the bike price will be 220 Nepalese rupees. In all these Durbar Squares you will get to see massive temples. Also you will get an idea about Nepal’s history after visiting these locations. So it would take a minimum 1-2 hours to visit the Durbar Squares. When I reached Pathan Durbar Square I was unable to explore the place well due to rainfall. But you should have more time in hand to explore the place well. Also click as many pictures as you can, otherwise you will regret like me after coming back home.

Things to remember for Day 3

On Day 3 there will be enough time in hand to explore the places. So if there are any locations that you have missed visiting on Day 1 and Day 2 then you can cover them on Day 3. However keep 1 thing in mind, that at 7 pm in the evening your bus to reach Pokhara will be booked already. So make sure to pick up your luggage from the hotel by 6 pm in the evening and then leave. It will take the whole night to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu and the bus will stop in the middle for dinner.

Nepal Tour Plan Day 4

On Day 4 you will reach Pokhara by 6 am in the morning. Definitely talk to the bus driver and ask him to drop you off at the lakeside road of the famous Phewa Lake. Also you must book your hotel around the lakeside. After getting off from the bus, first check in to your hotel. The Hotel prices start from 700 INR that you will get here. And for solo travelers you can get hostels here as well and the starting price is 300 INR per night.

The hotel in which I stayed was Hotel October INN. A room at the top floor of the hotel with a view cost me 1200 INR including breakfast. It also offered a beautiful view of the Phewa Lake from the room. I would recommend you to book this hotel and you won’t regret it. You can book the hotel in advance from sites like booking.com or agoda.

After checking into the hotel, there is one important thing to do. Basically, you will have to book a night bus from Pokhara to Raxaul for the next day, which is Day 5. On day 4 you will be staying in the hotel at Pokhara. And on day 5 you will be on the Pokhara to Raxaul bus at night. You can also book the bus ticket after talking to the hotel staff. Otherwise, you can also find a lot of tour agents around the lakeside, to book the tickets. I booked the bus tickets via a tour agent named Exploring Nature Adventure and Travel. And I had to pay 1200 Nepalese rupees per person.

Day 4 Activities

The next thing on this Nepal Tour Plan article is going to be the most interesting thing of this trip. Normally you can do sightseeing of all the spots in Pokhara in just one day. But there are many adventurous activities in Pokhara that are perfect for adventure seekers. So, people who love indulging in adventurous activities will get to enjoy all of these on day 4. And for people who are not interested in adventurous activities, the plan will be different for them.

If we talk about adventurous activities in Nepal’s Pokhara, then there are many options. There are ATV Riding, Rafting, Trekking, Kayaking, Ziplining, Paragliding, Bungee Jumping etc that you can try. You can book all these activities after talking to the hotel staff. I have tried Paragliding and Bungee Jumping here which would always be memorable for me.

The cost for Paragliding was 8000 Nepalese rupees and that included pickup from the hotel. It also included photos and videos during the activities. After completing the activity again they dropped me at the hotel. Similarly, for Bungee Jumping it was 6000 Nepalese rupees which included pick up and drop from the hotel, along with photos and videos.

Bungee Jumping
What’s more?

Now we will talk about those who are not interested in adventurous activities. On this day you don’t have to do a lot of things. You can just roam around the Phewa Lake and do boating to reach the Tal Barahi Temple. Also if you want you can rent a scooty or a cab and visit Begnas Lake. If you are trying the adventure activities on this day then you cannot visit the Begnas Lake. But after the activity you can visit the Phewa Lake in the evening though. The ambience of the Phewa Lake during the evening is beautiful so you can enjoy some time there. You can find different cafes, Disneyland for children, live music and food options here.

Things to remember for Day 4

After all of this there is another important thing on Day 4. You will have to pay 700 rupees per person and talk to the hotel staff and book a full day tourist bus for Pokhara sightseeing for Day 5. On Day 4, if you want you can enjoy the Phewa Lake till late at night, because the next day the sightseeing will start from 9 am in the morning.

Nepal Tour Plan Day 5

Day 5 is basically the last day of your Nepal trip. You should have your breakfast at the hotel early in the morning and then check out from the hotel. Keep your luggage at the store room of the hotel and start your sightseeing. The sightseeing will start at 9 am in the morning by the tourist bus. Tourist bus will pick you up from the hotel in the morning. There is actually a good thing about sightseeing in a tourist bus. You will get a tour guide who will guide you the whole day and tell you everything about the locations. But keep in mind that the entry fee of all the locations that you will visit are not included in the bus fare. So you will have to personally buy the tickets at all those locations here during your sightseeing.

But when I was in Pokhara, on the 5th day it was raining heavily. Also I had some dreams to fulfill, so I did not travel by the tourist bus. I rented a scooty by paying 1200 Nepalese rupees and explored the places on my own.

Pokhara Sightseeing Places

Devi’s Falls

This is the first sightseeing location for day 5 and it is a beautiful waterfall. And the entry fee is Rs. 100. You must plan a visit to this beautiful waterfall in Pokhara.

Gupteshwar Mahadev Temple

This is yet another popular sightseeing location in Pokhara. The entry fee to visit the Gupteshwar Mahadev is Rs. 20. It is a beautiful cave along with a Shivling inside the cave. The steps here are a little scary as you will have to climb down the metal stairs here. Also the path can be a bit slippery as well so be very careful.

Shanti Stupa

The next sightseeing point is the World Peace Pagoda which is also known as the Shanti Stupa. It’s basically a Buddhist monument and there is no entry fee here. Shanti Stupa is located at Pokhara’s Ananda hilltop. So while reaching there you can enjoy the beautiful view of the mountain. But after reaching there you will have to climb up around 500 steps to see the stupa. Inside the Pagoda, talking, making noise, playing music and even making tik tok videos are prohibited. After the trek up to the pagoda you will get to enjoy a beautiful view of the Phewa Lake from here.

Pumdikot Shiva Temple

The next sightseeing location is the Pumdikot Shiva Statue that is located within 4 km from the Peace Pagoda. The major attraction here is the height of Pumdikot Shiva Statue which is as tall as 108 feet. If you are coming here via normal tourist bus or cab, then you will have to climb a little bit to reach here. The cab doesn’t go till the temple gate here. This temple is unique because there are a total of 108 Shiva Lingas around the temple. Also you will get to enjoy a beautiful wide range view from here during clear sky days. You can also catch a glimpse of Shanti Stupa on a clear day. But due to bad weather we could not enjoy the view that day.

Mahendra Cave

This cave is the next sightseeing location in this Nepal Tour Plan. Now from one mountain, you will have to reach another mountain in the opposite direction. Here you will therefore get to visit the Mahendra Cave. The ticket price for Mahendra Cave is 80 Nepalese rupees. The journey is not tough, in fact even older people can visit inside. It would take around 20 minutes to explore the whole cave. The main highlight of this cave is the idol of Lord Ganesha inside the cave.

Bat Cave

The Bat Cave is the next sightseeing location for this trip and it is located around 10 minutes away from the Mahendra Cave. The cave is also popular as the Chamere Gufa as there are huge numbers of bats here. Made of limestone it is a popular sightseeing destination in Nepal. It can rather be an adventurous visit to the Bat Cave. You would be able to witness Horseshoe Bats here. Mostly they are seen hanging upside down from the ceiling here.

The entry fee here is 150 NPR and if you are opting for a guide then the fee would be 300 NPR. There is no light inside so the authorities will provide you with a torch here. But keep in mind that it is a confined space. Also the way to reach inside can be a little tough. So if you have claustrophobia or if you have aged family members along then visiting this cave would not be a good idea.

Seti River

The next sightseeing location is the Seti River and it is also popular as the Dudh Ganga as the water here is completely white in colour. Here the entry fee is 120 Nepalese rupees per person.

Bindhyabasini Temple

The next sightseeing location is the famous Bindhyabasini Maa Temple. After entering the temple, first you will get to visit Lord Ganesha here. And then you can go for the Darshan of Maa Bindhyabasini. Basically, Maa Durga is worshipped here as Maa Bindhyabasini. Other than the presiding deity Maa Bindhyabasini, here you can also see Lord Ganesha, Radha Krishna, Maa Saraswati and many other Gods and Goddesses. So make sure you are visiting this temple on your trip to Pokhara.

Phewa Lake and Tal Barahi Temple

The Phewa Lake is one of the most popular sightseeing locations in Pokhara so it is a must visit spot. If you have not visited the Phewa Lake and not tried boating here then you can do it on this day. The lake is beautiful and offers a beautiful view as well. The price for boating is Rs. 100 per person at Phewa Lake.

Things to remember on Day 5

On Day 5 you must keep in mind that by 6 pm in the evening you should be done with all the sightseeing locations. And then you will have to reach the hotel to pick your luggage. Then at 7 pm you will have to reach Prithvi Chowk. And then you can take a bus to reach Birgunj’s Clock Tower after a whole night journey.

Nepal Tour Plan Day 6

The Day 6 is basically the last day of your trip and on this day you will reach Birgunj’s Clock Tower at 5 am in the morning after a whole night journey. And from there you can take a Tanga gari or auto by paying 150 Nepalese rupees per person to reach Bihar’s Raxaul Railway Station. Here you just need to keep 2 things in mind. The Raxaul border opens only after 6 am in the morning. So in case you reach there before time you will have to wait at the border. And second, before going to the Raxaul station, stop at Dhala to get your currency exchanged. Finally with that the trip in Nepal comes to an end. After this you will get on to your pre-booked train to reach home after this fulfilling trip.

What to Eat

Now that we have discussed the itinerary of the Nepal Tour it is time to discuss the food in this Nepal Tour Plan article. Normally, in Nepal, every day you will have to spend around 400-500 INR for food. The food in Nepal is less spicy, but nevertheless very tasty. Mostly you should try the local food here like Momos, Thukpa, Thalis etc. That way it would definitely be more affordable. Personally I would recommend you to have breakfast at the hotel by paying Rs. 200 to Rs. 250 Nepalese rupees. If the breakfast is heavy and healthy, then by 3 pm in the afternoon you won’t feel hungry.

I am sharing the prices of some of the dishes here for an idea.

1.       Chicken Steam Momo for 180 Nepalese rupees (Rs. 110 INR)

2.       Chicken Thukpa for 200 Nepalese rupees (Rs. 124 INR)

3.       Chicken Rice Thali 250 Nepalese rupees (Rs. 155 INR)

4.       Chicken Noodles 230 Nepalese rupees (Rs. 145 INR)

5.       Veg Fried Rice 170 Nepalese rupees (Rs. 105 INR)

6.       Chicken Fried Rice 220 Nepalese rupees (Rs. 137 INR)

This is not the fixed price though. It is just a general idea about the prices of food there. Also if you are going to big restaurants then the price would obviously be higher. And if you are going to street side stalls or regular restaurants then the prices would be less in comparison.

Nepal Tour Plan Budget

Finally in the last part of this article we will discuss the budget of this whole trip. Basically I will tell you all the prices after converting the prices to Indian currency. And I will also tell the total price in Nepalese rupees in the end. Till now, all the prices that I have mentioned, I have mentioned if they are Nepalese rupees or in Indian rupees. So please don’t get confused.

Transport

So first of all the cost from India to Nepal and Nepal to India journey would be Rs. 1800 INR. I have not added the cost of journey from your base location to Bihar’s Raxaul or UP’s Gorakhpur. It will depend on the location that you are currently travelling from.

So from Raxaul to Kathmandu the cost of an auto would be Rs. 100 to reach Birgunj. Then it will be Rs. 500 in a bus or shared cab to reach Kathmandu. And from Kathmandu bus stand to Thamel Marg Hotel it will cost around Rs. 150. Similarly, while returning, Pokhara to Prithvi Chowk Bus Stand costs Rs. 200 and then it will be Rs. 750 for a night bus to reach Raxaul. Then to cross the border the cost will be Rs. 100.

So total Rs. 1800 INR per person.

Hotel

For a hotel it would be around Rs. 1900 INR total. It will be Rs. 600 for 2 days each in Kathmandu and Rs. 700 for 1 day in Pokhara. On this trip hotels would be required only for 3 days. And for the rest of the 2 days you will be on the bus.

Food, Sightseeing and others

Now for food it would be Rs. 500 each for 6 days, which is Rs. 3500 INR.

For a sim card it will be Rs. 315.

Then for Kathmandu sightseeing on the first day it will be Rs. 200, around Rs. 930 for the second day and Rs. 650 on the third day. So total Rs. 1780 for Kathmandu sightseeing.

For Pokhara sightseeing it is only Rs. 436, that you will pay for the tourist bus for full day sightseeing.

And entry fees in Kathmandu would be Rs. 1008, including Chandragiri Hills ropeway cost. For Pokhara sightseeing the entry fee would be Rs. 305.

Cost of the Pokhara to Kathmandu night bus is Rs. 1050 and I have kept Rs. 500 extra for the trip.

Total

Solo traveler- Rs. 12,600

2 or more people in a group – Rs. 10,500.

Additionally if you are taking part in adventure activities

1.       Rs. 5000 for paragliding

2.       Rs. 3500 for bungee jumping

3.       Rs. 632 for Kathmandu Night Club.

So total Rs. 9132.

If you add this with the total budget then it would be Rs. 21,732 INR which is 34,836 Nepalese rupees.

Important things to remember for Nepal Tour Plan

1.       In Nepal the time is 15 minutes ahead of India which means if it is 10 in India it would be 10:15 in Nepal.

2.       If you are using an analog watch, then definitely do change the time. Otherwise you might miss your bus here.

3.       So the next thing is to at least have the offline map of Kathmandu on your phone. In case you don’t get time to buy the sim from the border, then the offline map will help you till Kathmandu.

4.       For local transport definitely use the Pathao App as it is much more affordable. Otherwise a normal cab would be more expensive.

5.       You must carry both Voter Card and Aadhar Card with yourself, if you don’t have a passport.

6.       You will get scooty both in Kathmandu and Pokhara. However if you are two people then only it is a good idea. But if you are travelling solo then it is not a good plan because you will get late in reaching the locations following the map. Also in some of the places the parking charges are also high.

7.       In recent times, due to bad road conditions, Pokhara’s Stupa is not included in the tourist bus sightseeing. So the only way to visit there is by scooty or private cab.
